Back to School Books

Somehow, the school year always just seems to sneak up on everyone. It seems like just yesterday summer was here...days outside, at camp, at the beach...nothing to do except play and relax in the sun.

The lazy days of summer might be stretching behind us, and the library has lots of fun picture books to help get kids in the mood for school. It's true, school started a week ago, however not everyone is always eager to go. Here are a few new books to help get you fully into that "back to school" mood! If you need more suggestions, be sure to check out the full list on our children's booklist page on our website!

Picture Day Perfection by Deborah Diesen
After planning for months to have the perfect school picture taken, a boy’s
moment of weakness ruins everything.

Chu’s First Day of School by Neil Gaiman
On the first day of school, a young panda learns about the special things his
animal classmates can do.

My Teacher is a Monster! (No I am Not) by Peter Brown
Bobby thinks his teacher, Ms. Kirby, is horrible, but when he sees her outside of
school and they spend a day in the park together, he discovers she might not be
so bad after all.

Dinosaur Vs. School by Bob Shea
Fearless Dinosaur takes on new challenges as he starts preschool, from meeting
new friends to pasting glitter and googly eyes, but one task requires assistance
from everyone.

Welcome!

Welcome to the South Kingstown Public Library's Blog for children, tweens, and their families!

We hope you'll check back often as we share book reviews and suggestions, literacy tips, and entertaining tidbits relating to the world of children and tween books!

The children's section of the library web page has recently gotten a face lift! Now you'll easily be able to find information on programs we offer not only for babies and preschoolers, but for school aged children as well!  Also be sure to check out our small but growing section of booklists for all ages.

We are also excited to share that October will bring the launch of our all new 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program! Sounds impossible? Don't worry, we promise it isn't! Full details about this early literacy program will be available on our website soon!

So please, explore our new web page a bit, and be sure to check back here for additional notes on books, reading, and more!
